Bass drum (Revival Drum) & Kettle drum (Revival Drum)
Bass drum (Revival Drum)
This is a drum approximately thirteen inches in diameter that is carried over the shoulder and beaten with a short padded stick called a hammer. It maintains a steady rhythm and often signals the start of meetings and usually continues throughout the gathering. The incorporation of this drum reflects a European military influence on an Afro-Jamaican religious expression.
Kettle drum (Revival Drum)
The music of this small tenor drum is extracted by the use of slender sticks measuring approximately twelve inches in length. It provides melodic variations and, as such, is often referred to as “the drum that speaks”.
